40 challenges cards that can be worked on alone or collaboratively as a group will keep boys occupied and thinking. Don’t be surprised if the boys can solve the puzzle before you figure it out!

A board game that creates mazes for 1-4 players is a must have! Part puzzle, part board game.

Endless variations, hours of fun! Seriously, don’t pass this one up. Just remember to keep marbles away from younger kids. Boys will love showing you their creations and have you put the marbles in and see where they go!

Lay a twister game somewhere outside, on grass is preferable.

Here is where the game starts to get really fun!  You will need about 3 cans of shaving cream and some food coloring.  Mix a bowl of green, blue, red and yellow food coloring with the shaving cream.

Place a big scoop  of blue shaving cream on each of the blue circles, a big  scoop of green shaving cream on each green circle, continue doing this until every circle on your twister game has a matching scoop of colored shaving cream on it.

Get your kids in position and start the game.

Warning! This is going to make a really big mess, and your kids are going to love every minute of it. What about the clean up? When the final winner was determined and the games were over I literally hosed off my kids, the Twister game mat and my grass. Easy peasy clean up!  (Make sure your players wear old clothes because the colored shaving cream is hard to get out, sometimes it will stain clothing depending on the fabric.)

Before my children were married though, we used to host themed Sunday dinners and they would invite their college friends, roommates and current heart throbs.  We had so much fun and loved the energy that arrived the moment they walked in the door.  Some of our dinners were Italian Night, Chinese New Year, Academy Award Night and our famous Halloween Dinner.  One year we also had a Valentine’s dinner and while these starving college students were waiting for dinner to be served we had a Conversation Hearts Activity.

I originally saw the idea from a pin that I pinned from Room-Mom101 where she suggested to use the words on the hearts to create sentences.  I gave everyone a box of their own Conversation Hearts and had a contest of who could make the longest sentence with the hearts and also who could make as many sentences with the most amount of their hearts but the sentences had to make sense.  Boy were these guys creative!

I am contemplating having another Valentine’s Dinner this year and so on my way home from work, I stopped off and grabbed some Conversation Hearts.

Would you like to see what I came up with?  Promise not to laugh?  My brain isn’t quite as fresh as the young adults in my family but here goes!“Hey Babe, Sweet Talk Text Me Forever.”  (my personal favorite)  then “Time to Dance My Girl – Boogie, Shake it”  And finally.  “I love You, Puppy Love. ”

Okay, or how about this?“Boogie Play Time – You can do it. Shake it Love Bug, play now.”    How about “Let’s Ride – Race Me My Girl” and finally “Be Mine Baby Doll”

The possibilities are endless and I promise that all ages will enjoy making their sentences!!

What do you do with your darling children who are excited for Santa to come? How do you keep them from being bored and keep them AWAY from TV and  video games?  Give them fun activities that will help them use their brain!

Today I have  listed some sites with online educational activities! Hopefully this will keep your little darlings busy and  buy you some time to finish your last minute Christmas to-do list.

One of my favorite things about this season is the opportunity to teach my children about serving those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Let me share an experience our family had about 8 years ago.

While reading the newspaper I found an article about an older couple that had spent time volunteering at a San Jose day camp for Russian orphans. While serving there they ran across 5 Russian siblings ages 9-15 who were on the verge of being separated forever. This wonderful couple in their “golden years” did the unthinkable and adopted all 5 children! Their story brought tears to my eyes. The Anacker’s were of meager income, but did not let that stop them. I showed my husband the article and we decided we wanted to help with their first Christmas as a family in America.

I contacted Marilyn Anacker, told her I was the mother of 4 young children and we wanted to help. I asked if we could drop of Christmas presents for their family and what their needs were. Marilyn said they needed clothes for all of the children, and that they had no toys or sports items. I quickly contacted our church members asking for clothing donations in the correct sizes. The response was immediate and generous. We had plenty of clothing in each size within a few days. Then came the best part, reading the story to our kids and asking them if they wanted to help. Their response was to get up, run to their rooms and start gathering items they wanted to give to this family. I was pleased to watch as they chose some of their best or favorite toys to give away.

I contacted Marilyn again to arrange a time to drop off the clothing and toys. This amazing woman said we couldn’t “drop” of the items unless we all came in to meet her husband, older son and the children. Our kids watched eagerly as Marina, Leana, Sergei, Irina and Nikolai opened their gifts. To this day, seeing my children experience the true joy of giving is my favorite Christmas memory.
