I love the flag in these pictures, this is the flag my 24 year old son was awarded when he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts Of America. His 11 year old brother is currently working towards earning his Eagle Scout award.

Over the years I have had the privilege of being my son’s scout leader. One thing I have come to appreciate is how the BSA teaches my boys about our country’s history and to understand our governmental system.

I’m most appreciative that my sons have learned to love their country and what it means truly be patriotic. As soon as my oldest son turned 18 he signed up for the Selective Service System. He was excited and proud when his SSS ID card came in the mail.

I love to see the respect my youngest son shows for the flag when he “Posts the Colors” at Pack meeting. At the age of 11 years old he understands why “Posting the Colors” is an honor and a privilege. At the age of 11 years old he also enjoys fireworks, sparklers and fun treats like these 4th of July Ice Cream Cones from Amy at Designer of all Things Cute!

Supplies

• Colored chocolate candy melts
• Ice cream cones
• 4th of July sprinkles
• Ice Cream
• Chocolate Magic Shell
• Cherries
• Whip Cream

Making these ice cream cones is quick and easy.

Simply melt some colored chocolate candy melts in a bowl, dip the ice cream cones in the melted chocolate. Shake off the excess chocolate, shake on some 4th of July sprinkles and the ice cream cones are done! Scoop your ice cream ahead of time and place the scoops on a cookie sheet and return to the freezer. When you are ready to serve them, remove the scoops from your freezer, place the ice cream scoops on the ice cream cones. Pour some magic shell over them, place a dollop of whip cream and cherry on top. Serve and enjoy! A treat this easy……….

If you wait too long, the blue  layer will set so fast that when you pour the white layer over the blue layer they won’t stick to each other. I waited too long and when I took the stars out of the silicone mold, the red and white layer stuck together (lesson learned). But the blue and white layer slipped apart as soon as they came out of the mold. I had to re-stack each star for the pictures. Here is how I avoided this happening with the red and white layer. I  poured a tablespoon of the red layer over the white layer as a test. Nailed it this time!I have to admit that even the hubster was impressed with how these turned out. My teenagers loved how they looked. Another great thing about these stars is that they hold up at room temperature really well. You don’t have to worry about them melting or losing their shape. Last but not least, how do they taste? Jello and condensed milk are quite the combo. I luvr them, the kids luvr’d them, which means…….

Jello Stars Recipe

Ingredients

• 2 – 3 ounce boxes of berry blue flavored Jello
• 2 – 3 ounce boxes of cherry flavored Jello
• 1 – 1 ounce box of Knox gelatine {4 envelopes}
• 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

• Layer #1: in a large bowl pour: your berry blue Jello mixes, 1 envelope of Knox gelatine, and 2 cups of HOT water. Mix well to combine. CAREFULLY pour mixture into dish. Place dish into refrigerator until set. Approximately 20-30 minutes. Be careful do not wait too long.
• Layer#2: in a large bowl pour: 2 envelopes of gelatine, 3/4 cup HOT water, 1/4 cup COLD water. Mix to combine. Into a separate bowl add: sweetened condensed milk and 1 cup HOT water. Mix to combine. CAREFULLY pour milk mixture into gelatine mixture. Mix to combine. SLOWLY pour white layer on top of BLUE layer. Return to refrigerator to set up. Approximately 20-30 minutes. Be careful do not wait too long.
• Layer #3: in a large bowl pour: cherry Jello mixes, 1 envelope of Knox gelatine, and 2 cups of HOT water. Mix to combine. CAREFULLY pour mixture into dish. Place dish into refrigerator until set. Approximately 20-30 minutes. Be careful do not wait too long.
