Items Needed:

Hard boiled eggs
Beets
Red cabbage
Turmeric
Hibiscus tea
Parsley
Vegetable oil, optional, for rubbing eggs after coloring

Instructions:

Prepare ingredients by cutting or grating

Add water to saucepan
Add ingredient and bring to boil

Reduce heat to low, and simmer for 15-30 minutes or until desired color. It should be a few shades darker then you want the color of your eggs.
Remove pan from stove and allow to cool to room temperature
Strain the dye using a fine mesh strainer into a bowl

Transfer dye into glass container

Add eggs and allow to set until desired color. This can even take a few hours depending on how dark you want your color.

Remove from dye and place on wire rack or paper towel
Allow to dry completely and rub with oil to make them shiny if desired

Tips:
Every egg will not turn out the same, even in the same dye color. There will naturally be different shades.
The Parsley dyed very light with 4 hours of soaking, but overnight it dyed darker.
You may need to use cheesecloth to strain the ingredients from the dye, depending on how small the pieces of ingredients are.

Just look at these results!

Rubbing a little oil on Natural Dyed Easter Eggs just makes them glow with their more muted coloring.

Items needed for this craft:

Socks – You can either purchase or use mismatched socks from home.

Satin Ribbon   – Or use any kind of ribbon that you have at home.

Scunci Polybands – Plain rubber bands will also work.

Long Grain Rice – About 1 cup per bunny

Needle and black thread or Black Sharpie Marker

Let’s get started!  First stretch your sock over a sturdy glass, then fill the sock with 1 cup of rice.

Take a polyband or rubber band and tie the top closed.

Then take another band and wrap it around near the top to create the body and the head.

Use another band to make the tail for the bunny

Cut any excess sock off at the top.  If you leave a lot of sock at the top, your ears will be floppy.  If you cut it closer to the head, they will stand up.  It’s all up to you!

Cut down the center of the top of the sock. Then cut each ear at an angle to make the curve for the ears.

This next part you can either use some black thread to make two eyes and “x” for the nose or you can use a sharpie marker.

Give your bunny a little bow around the neck and he is ready to go!  Kids love playing with these because the rice inside makes it soft to hold and easy for them to stand this bunny up.

Colored Deviled Eggs: These are easy to make and deliciously perfect for Easter, which is just around the corner!

We don’t normally color eggs for Easter. It’s just SO much work and then no one actually eats them. Plus, eggs are expensive right now! But coloring the egg whites themselves is simple to do, doesn’t make a huge mess, and you end up with a plate full or gorgeous deviled eggs.

Colored Deviled Eggs

Hard boil one dozen eggs

Don’t laugh, but I’ve ruined hard boiled eggs more times than I’d like to admit. I think we’d been married for 12 years before I made an egg I was happy to feed to my husband! So in case you are like I was, here’s a quick how-to for great boiled eggs:

1. Place eggs in a large pot and cover with 1″ of cool water
2. Cover, bring the water to a rolling boil
3. Allow to boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat
4. Leave covered and let them sit for 12 minutes
5. Shock in cold/ice water to stop cooking

Peel the eggs, cut them in half lengthwise and scoop out the yolks into a bowl

Prepare the egg dye according to the instructions on the package

I used gel coloring, so it was 1/2 cup hot water, 1 tsp vinegar and 1 tsp of dye. Let the egg whites sit in the bowl for about 4 minutes and then sit them on a rack to dry for 15 minutes. I love the speckles and streaks!

While the egg whites are soaking, mix up the filling in a small bowl

• 12 cooked egg yolks
• 1/4 cup mayonnaise
• 2 tbsp mustard
• salt and pepper to taste

Once the dyed eggs are dried, fill the centers with the yolk mixture (I used a piping bag, but a spoon works just as well)

Aren’t they pretty? It’s a little bit of spring on a plate. Happy Easter!

The minute I saw this twisty, circular, triangle-ish, flaky, layered loaf of beauty I knew I had to have it. But I did not try to make this swirly curly bread. Cause I was scared. Scared of this pretty bread would be too hard to make. But I couldn’t get it out of my head. It’s like that outfit you had the good sense not to buy, but then wish you did. Buy it, I mean, not use your good sense. And when you are still thinking about it week’s later, your know. You know that outfit has to be yours.When I was still thinking about this bread week’s later, I decided it was time to give it a whirl. Get it? Whirl? Curl, swirl, whirl. Too much? Well that’s just the thing! Turns out this bread is not as intimidating as it looks. In fact, this pretty little gem turned out perfect on the first try. A big thank you to Foodiva for posting Happy Bread and showing me now easy it is to make such a pretty loaf.After the first rising, you will divide the dough into 8 equal parts.Then roll them out flat into rectangles.
Brush one side with melted butter.

Lay one rectangle on top of the other.
Repeat with the remaining dough. You will end up with 4 layered dough rectangles.
Now roll them up like you would cinnamon rolls.Here is where it gets really fun. Cut of the ends. These will make the swirly rosettes in the center.
Cut the rectangular dough in the center into triangles. I made a diagonal cut through the center and then made a diagonal cut in the other direction to make the triangles.

Place one of the ends in the center of a greased cookie sheet with the uncut side up. Circle the remaing ends around the center.Next, pick up the center section of each cylinder as if the triangles are still all one piece of dough and set around the circle of end pieces in the center. Repeat with remaining cylinders.Allow to rise, brush with butter, and bake!This Swirly Curly Bread will make perfect rolls for Mother’s Day. It will be like her personal bouquet of bread.

Ingredients

• 2 teaspoons dry instant yeast
• 1 Tablespoon sugar or honey
• 1/2 cup warm water
• 4 cups all-purpouse flour
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2 eggs lightly beaten
• 2/3 cup buttermilk
• 2 Tablespoons melted butter

Glaze

• 1 egg yolk
• 2 Tablespoons milk

Instructions

• Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water.
• In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
• Add yeast mixture, eggs, buttermilk and butter to bowl of stand mixer fitted with bread hook.
• Mix at low speed.
• Slowly add the flour and salt a little at a time. Knead until dough begins to pull away from the sides for the bowl.
• Once dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl, knead for an additional 5 minutes.
• Place dough in a greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
• Punch down risen dough.
• Place on floured board and divide into 8 equal portions.
• Roll each portion into a rectangle.
• Brush melted butter over one rectangle and lay another rectangle on top. Roll the two rectangle into a cylinder.
• Repeat with remaining balls of dough. You should have four cylinders when done.
• Cut off the ends of the cylinder. Cut middle of the dough into four triangles. Make a diagonal cut in the center, and then make a diagonal cut in the other direction to create triangles.
• Put one end of a cylinder, cut side down in the center of a greased cookie sheet. Arrange the remaining ends around the center.
• Pick up the cylinders of dough as if they are still in one pieces and arrange around the center bouquet.
• Cover and let rise until doubled rise in warm place for about 30 to 40 minutes.
• Beat egg yolk and milk. Brush over dough.
• You may sprinkle poppy seeds or sesame seeds on top at this point if you wish.
• Bake bread in a preheated 350° oven for 30 -40 minutes.
• If bread is not browned as you would like, set the oven to broil with bread on middle rack for 3-5 minutes. Watch closely! It can get too brown quickly.
• Brush bread with melted butter as soon as it is done, and let cool for 10 minutes before eating.
• So fun to break off a uniquely shaped roll!

My little three had so much fun making these cupcakes, especially the bunny ears. However, my five year old was the only one who let me photograph her while working. I think the other five kids might start charging me to model for blog posts if I’m not careful!

Are you ready to get your kiddos in the kitchen and make some together? They couldn’t be more simple! First, bake up a batch of cupcakes and allow them to cool.

While they are cooling, make your bunny ears by cutting large marshmallows in half diagonally and dipping the cut side into some pink sugar sprinkles.

To frost the cupcakes, you have a few options depending on how much time you have. I used white frosting and piped it on using a grass tip. It looks just like a furry little bunny You could also cover them in white frosting and then roll the frosting in coconut, but if your kids feel the way mine do about coconut, that won’t be an option. You last option, and the one my kids used when decorating their cupcakes, is to use a knife and slather on the white frosting.

My kids loved taking these adorable cupcakes to school the next day. They got so many comments and questions about how they made them from both adults and their friends.

Rainy springtime weather doesn’t mean your home has to be dull, too. With warmer days just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to hunker down and create something bright and beautiful for your home.

I love to have something green in almost every room of the house, but my office was looking neglected. I decided that small and low-maintenance succulents would be perfect for the workspace. I looked to Pinterest for ideas, where I found plenty of photos of succulents planted in unexpected objects like tea cups, mason jars and old books.

Wanting to put my own spin on the project, I found inspiration in an unlikely place: my refrigerator! With Easter just weeks away, creating tiny Easter Eggshell Planters seemed like a perfectly seasonal way to bring some eggs-tra special touches to my home’s decor. Here’s how to make your own!

What you’ll need:

• Straight pins
• Eggs
• Small succulent plants
• Soil

You may also want to collect the following for decorating the egg planters:

• Food coloring or traditional egg dye kit
• Washi tape
• Spray paint
• Watercolor paint
• Paint markers

Instructions

1. Begin by using a straight pin to poke a tiny hole on opposite ends of the egg. The holes need to be small, but large enough for you to blow the yolk out of the egg entirely. Be patient — it may take a few jabs to get the right sized hole.

2. Next, blow the egg white and yolk out of the egg until it’s completely empty. Gently rinse off the egg under cold water. Place it in a strainer or on a cushion of paper towels to dry.

3. Think about where the planters will live to help you decide on colors or styles for decorating. If you plan to use them for Easter decor, consider pastel colors. Or you may want to use the planters as accent decor in your home, like me. I have some gold accents in my office, so I went with gold paint for my eggs.

4. Once the eggs are dry, start creating your masterpiece! Be playful and create something fun and fresh. I went with chevron and polka dots because they are my favorite patterns, and accented the eggs using a gold paint marker.

Here’s how to dye your eggs:

• Measure 2 cups of boiling water into a small or medium sized bowl
• Add 10 drops of food coloring (add more for a richer color)
• Add 1 tsp. of vinegar
• Submerge the eggs in the mixture for 5-7 minutes. You may need to hold down the egg to help it absorb the color better. You can do this by using a spatula or gently with a spoon.

5. Once the decorations have set and dried, take a fork and carefully peck at the top hole. Slowly crack back the egg until one-third of the top comes off. Peel away any excess around the edges.

6. Now it’s time to get planting! Be sure to find a stand for your planters so they don’t roll. This can be a traditional egg carton, or perhaps try a cake stand, cheese platter board or wood rounds. I love the look of brown egg cartons.

7. Sprinkle a few pinches of soil into each egg. Gently remove the succulents out of their pots and shake off the dirt, clearing as much of it around the roots as possible. You may need to separate even the smallest of succulents — these eggs are tiny!

Place the plant inside the egg, making sure to cover its roots in soil.

8. Finally, brush any excess dirt off of the eggs, and voila! If you want to add more details, make a collection of plants and add small colorful flowers or herbs to other egg planters. You could also grab some plant moss from your local home and garden store for a more earthy feel.

Hey guys! March sure is coming in like a lion at our house! We got struck by a white-out blizzard that totally messed up my entire week! Good thing I have tons of sewing projects to keep me busy, like how to make a bow tie in 5 minutes as a scrap buster project. I make these all during March for my friends’ kids for Easter. I attempted my first video tutorial for you guys here and although it’s very poorly done I think you’ll get the gist of how easy these bowties are.

Pour one packet of Kool Aid into a bowl with 2/3 cups warm water. Dissolve the Kool Aid and you are now ready to dip and color your eggs. Be careful with the darker colors, it doesn’t take much time for them to grab the color and become super dark. The yellow egg turned out a little spotty, but that did not bother me. I got 3 packets of Kool Aid for $1, can’t beat that price!

I’d have to say that using this method was really “Kool”……This Pin ROCKS!

Kool Aid Colored Easter Eggs

Ingredients

• 1 package Kool Aid
• 2/3 cups warm water

Instructions

• Pour on package of Kool Aid into a bowl. Add 2/3 cups warm water, stir until Kool Aid is dissolved. You are now ready to color your eggs.

If you follow the instructions you will have one batch of flubber in only one color. I didn’t need to make more than one batch, but I wanted four different colors. To get four different colors from one batch, all you have to do is make adding the food coloring your very last step. This means you will have one bowl of white flubber. Divide the flubber into as many parts as desired. Then add the food coloring of your choice to each part. Here is where it is going to get a bit messy. I suggest wearing some rubber gloves. Because your flubber has already been created, the food coloring requires you to “knead” in the food coloring. I put about 4 to 5 drops on my white flubber, and then spread it around with a wooden spoon. I then took the outside edges of the flubber and pushed it down into the middle of the bowl. Once all the outside edges have been kneaded in, I picked up the flubber and kept rolling the outside edges into the middle. Knead the flubber a litte bit and you will have more of the marbled look. Knead your flubber a lot and you will have more of an all over even tone and less of the marbled looked. You have complete control over the end result simply by controlling how much you “knead” in the food coloring.

My flubber experience was a little like professor Bloom and Brainard’s, I didn’t know ahead of time how it was going to turn out. I did not start out with the plan of having “marbled flubber” it just happened to work out that way because I chose to add the food coloring last. However, I LOVE how it looks!

Ingredients

• Mixture 1
• 1 ½ cups warm water
• 2 cups Elmer’s Glue
• Food coloring
• Mixture 2
• 3 tsp. Borax
• 1 cup Warm Water

Instructions

• Stir mixture 1 together in 1 bowl.
• Mixture 2 in another bowl.
• Make sure both are mixed well.
• Pour mixture 1 into mixture 2.
• There is no need to stir the mixture but you can if you want because it is the chemical reaction that actually makes the flubber . When it is in a glob work it for 2-3 minutes. Initially it feels wet but it eventually dries up to the final product.

I have to say that for my first real experience with flubber was very fun and a complete success! I didn’t put any of the flubber on the bottom of my shoes to see if I could jump to extreme heights. With my luck I would probably slip, fall and hurt my back. If any of you are brave enough to try it, please leave a comment and let us know if you had any out of the normal type of experience

• Simply poke fruit and Peeps Bunnies onto your skewers in any pattern that suits your fancy.

• You could even serve with a side of fruit dip if you’d like.
