Ya know, there are pins that I have seen floating around Pinterest since Pinterest started. I call them “classic” pins. They have withstood the test of time (in the short time that Pinterest has been around) and continue to resurrect themselves into my feed.

Today is about one of those “classic” pins – an Etched Glass Soap Dispenser. I will be very surprised if you haven’t already seen it. Like I said, I think it’s a classic.

I have wanted to make this since the first day that I pinned it from Lil Blue Boo and guess what? I now have one sitting on my kitchen counter.

This was super easy to make and it got my mind reeling thinking about all the possibilities!

But first let’s get this tutorial rolling!

You will need to purchase an olive oil dispenser. I’ve seen them around everywhere but I bought mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $4.99. Next you will need some etching cream called Armour Etch which you can easily find at Michael’s.

The next step is probably the trickiest if you don’t have a Silhouette machine. A Silhouette machine can cut out the words “Dish Soap” on vinyl that you adhere right onto your dispenser. If you don’t have one of these machines, you can use a stencil, trace the letters on and then cut the words out with an exacto knife.

After cutting your letters out, adhere the sticky vinyl onto your clean and dry dispenser:

Liberally apply the etching cream with a paint brush making sure that you don’t go past the end of the vinyl. If you look at the tail of my “P”, I cut the vinyl a little too close and had to be extra careful not to get the etching cream on the side of my glass.

Leave etching cream on for about five minutes and then wash off with warm water. Make sure you are using gloves during this whole process as this etching cream is an acid and can burn skin with contact.

After drying, peel off your vinyl, add your liquid dish soap and you now have a tasteful looking Glass Etched Soap Dispenser to adorn your kitchen counter just like mine! I want to make another one that says “Olive Oil” since I do use another one of these dispensers for just that. Wouldn’t that make a great wedding gift?

I am going to report that This Pin Rocks! even though I have one disappointment about it. My liquid dish soap is thicker than olive oil, so when you turn it upside down, it does take a little while for the soap to come out. Olive oil comes out much nicer.

But it is so much prettier than having a manufacturer’s soap bottle sitting on the counter that I am still thrilled with it and can definitely recommend this pin!
