Hi to all of the Made From Pinterest Fans! This is Melanie from Artzy Creations again bringing you a very simple and easy DIY project for you for Valentine’s Day. I know what your thinking…Valentine’s Day already?! We just had Christmas and now it’s already on to Valentine’s Day. However, it will be here before you know it. Thanks to my youngest daughter Lily reminding me that Valentine’s Day is only WEEKS away. You would think I was paying her to say it. Lol! So, I wanted to bring you something that was simple, fun, and easy to make. Here’s how to make this Easy DIY Valentine’s Day Votive.

Here’s What You Need:

• Mason Jar
• Heart Stickers
• Pink Spray Paint (Matte Finish)
• Clear Spray Paint (Matte Finish)
• Ribbon, Trim, Scrapbook Pieces (Kaiser Craft) For Embellishment (Optional)
• Tea Light Candle

Step 1: Apply the heart stickers to the Mason Jar.

Step 2: Spray paint the jar and let dry.

Step 3: Very carefully and slowly peel off the heart stickers. If the spray paint happens to become scratched off before you seal it, take the spray paint and apply it to a paint brush and touch up the spot. When taking off the stickers, I found it was easiest to remove them from starting at the bottom and peeling them in a clockwise motion. That way it wouldn’t peel off any excess paint.

Step 4: Seal with the clear spray paint and let dry.

Step 5: Add ribbon or trim. You could even attach a love note!

I love how this turned out! If you have a special loved one that you would like to give a gift to, this would be just perfect. Or teacher’s would just melt, if they were to receive one. Just saying since I’m a teacher.

I love how this votive just radiates warmth and love.

Give your special Valentine something the will cherish and keep for a long time without spending hours laboring over the gift!

Their DIY projects come in a cute, sturdy box which is perfect for giving just the way it is, or it is just waiting for your own creativity!  This is our last of three projects and I was excited that these Gilded Votives was the project that I would get to work on.

After opening my kit, I was excited that they were two colors of pens but then that posed an immediate dilemma!  What color did I want to use to make my project?  Silver?  Or gold?  And then a song from my long ago girls camp days came to mind:

Make new friends, but keep the old.  One is silver and the other’s gold.

That song answered my dilemma and I made both!  Now just to avoid any confusion this DIY Gilded Votive kit sells for a reasonable price of $16.00 and comes with three votives.  I did receive four votives because I was given one to practice on but these were so quick and easy to make that I was able to use my practice votive.

All you need to do to make these votives is to prime your pen by pushing it down on a scratch piece of paper to get the ink flowing, then you are ready to create!  These votives took me around 20 minutes to make which gives you a maximum result for a minimal effort!  What could be better than that?

Supplies Needed

• Tall and/or short votives $2 bought them from a thrift store
• Colored Sand $5
• Tea candle or votive candle $1

Total Cost $8

The votive candles I bought ended up being too wide for the glasses and votive I used. So I used a medium sized tea candle instead. They worked great. When I make these next time I will remember to get wider glasses/votive. Start by layering your sand alternating colors of your choice. 

When your votive is about 3/4 full place your tea candle or votive candle in the center. Continue layering your sand.

This was my last layer of sand. I covered the tea candle with the blue sand, all you could see was the wick when I was finished.

These won’t take you more than about 30 to 45 minutes to make. I love that you can customize your candles with different colors. Black, purple and orange will look great for Halloween.  This is one of the few times you get to play with sand without getting it all over you! And you end up with great candles.

These clothes pin Votives look like they should be on the table of any campsite! They would be an awesome craft for the kids to do!

The first thing you have to do is make yourself a really awesome tuna melt sandwich. Before having to go gluten free I preferred mine with Monteray Jack cheese on white sourdough bread. Once you have finished your sandwich, remove the label from your tuna can and then wash and dry it out. Next, clip clothes pins around your tuna can. You can leave your votive plain or use some craft paints or permanent markers to add some cute polka dots. Use it as a votive, a planter for some herbs or a plant, or make a small floral arrangement with it. These should take no more than 5-10 minutes to make, unless you decide to account for how long it takes you to make and eat your tuna melt. Either way……….

Items you will need:  Fresh Washed Apples, Candles, Apple Corer, Pen

Turn your candle upside down and trace around the edge as a cutting guide.

Cut out around the top, and then hollow out your apple.

This is how my apple looked after it was hollowed out.

This is how it will look with the candle inserted. Be careful when pushing the candle in, or your apple will split apart. I like having  the candle sit just above the edge of the apple.

Pro’s:  These are unique, fun, easy to make and not very expensive.

Con’s:  As you know apples brown quickly, even when you wash them with lemon juice. I got about 8 – 10 hours out of mine before they started to look brown. But for special occasions, I think they would be worth it.
