Preheat oven to 350.
Start with the brownie batter. Cream the butter and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla and beat the mixture until it's smooth and light in color.
Mix the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt) in a separate bowl. Whisk them together and then add gradually to the butter mixture. Mix until combined. Cover and refrigerate while you make the chocolate chip cookie dough.
For the chocolate chip cookie dough, cream the butter and sugars. Add the vanilla and eggs and beat until the mixture is smooth and the color is light. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients and chocolate chips to the butter mixture gradually and mix until it's all combined.
Using a cookie scoop (approx 1 Tb), scoop 12 balls of each dough. Using one of each dough, press the dough balls together and use your hands to roll them into a ball shape.
Bake the cookies, in batches of one dozen, for 12-14 minutes. Remove them from the oven and allow to cool on the baking pan for two minutes before removing them to a wire rack to cool completely.
