Use a essential oil lemongrass or citronella and now it rids the bugs!!! Not lit a light sent is released, when lit it gets a stronger sent released!!

I think if you use a wide mouth jar, you could use a clear votive holder to keep the wax coming in contact with the rice.

I’d like it better if it wasn’t a wasteful use of food, while so many children within our own communities go hungry. Maybe make a candle out of bits of old crayons. Shave red white and blue crayons into jar, put a wick in the middle. Just sayin.

i wondered about rice burning as i’ve made with coffee beans & a votive & next thing i knew the beans caught fire… think would use a tealight or votive in a jar to be safe… 🙂

Hi Laura!

Well I’ve searched all over the internet and can’t find a single thing where it says that rice can catch on fire. If you use a tealight, they do come in an aluminum casing that would help prevent the flame from touching the rice. Thanks for stopping by! Deb
