I have been using this procedure for two years now. I think it works great. I did however add one step. I use a squeegee immediately after the rinse. The windows look great.
I have a couple of windows that are quite high and I sometimes do not squeegee them off. It does leave a slight haze if I don't squeegee.
I use a telescoping pole with a lambs wool pad on it for the scrubber. Then I rinse off and then squeegee. Looks great. Clear as a bell. Will never go back to windex out side. Inside I use Sprayway Glass Cleaner with the blue car paper shop towels. Not the paper towels you buy at the grocery store.

Hi Kerry,

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Try using a squeegee after you use the cleaning solution. Hope it goes better the second time around! Best of luck, Tracy

I put a towel down to do the inside windows. I spray the cleaner on first with a spray bottle. Then I have another spray bottle of water to "hose" it down with. Pick up the towel in a couple minutes. If you use 2 or 3 towels and dont have to wait it goes very quickly

Oh for heaven sake ,never heard so many people it works ,it doesn't ,read directions etc. My brother in law buys some stuff like this from the most famous tv sales show with a (Q) and he is really picky and cleans his windows on a two story house and they are beautiful and done when ever they need it, did my elderly moms too gorgeous. Well,Im the middle child and a bit prone to shortcuts so this is a great idea and I know if works where I live but I was told blue dawn.I don't know whats in that stuff but nobody ever recommends any of the other dawn liquids. One thing I might suggest to people in hard water areas is that vinegar is cheap ,put it full strength in your garden sprayer either one that hooks on to the hose or one of the pump up ones and pre rinse then have at it with the soap, and dry liquid as directed . I thought curtains were to use in place of window cleaning (lol) just kidding but this is easier and it works.

Hi Charlene,

Sorry to hear you did not have optimal results with your windows. The results can vary depending on the age of your windows, soft vs. hard water etc. Thanks for following us and giving it a try, Tracy

Shannon,

Thanks for your comment. I'm pleased this worked so well on your grungy picture frames and windows. Having sparkling clean windows is such a great feeling! Even better when you can clean them in half the time 0:) So glad you follow us, Tracy

In reply to <a href="https://www.thisgrandmaisfun.com/how-to-wash-windows/#comment-969">Sheila</a>.

I just used this mixture on some glass out of several grungy picture frames. I used a dish rag to clean (using the mixture) then rinsed with warm water. SPOTLESS. Since the glass worked so well, I tried it on my back door glass. I again used the dish rag to remove the "funk" then this time, I dried the window lightly with a paper towel. Again, SPOTLESS.

The mixture was comprised of "some water" maybe half gallon? A couple of squirts of rinse-aide (I used generic brand), and a small amount of Dawn dishwashing soap. No elbow grease involved. Just gently wiped the glass, then lightly dried it. SO excited!

I have a litle tip getting rid of streaks. When I wash mirrors or see streaks on my inside windows I take a new, clean, Mr Clean eraser sponge ( or the cheeper version from the Dollar store), and wipe or polish with the dry sponge, they sparkle. I went online to find a fast, easy way to clean my outside windows when I found this website, I am going out to try it now. In my search I came accross this website, (https://wholenewmom.com) they had a recipe for a "no streak homemade window cleaner), I 'm going to try it on my indoor windows. Those who have asked about indoor windows might want to try it with me.

Hey Cindy,

I'm so pleased to hear this worked so well for you and your husband. I too put off window washing, so much easier to get them clean with this method! Thanks so much for following us, Tracy

My husband and I just washed our windows with this recipe. It is AMAZING and we have 6 month old windows. I think maybe others should make sure to use Dawn and not laundry detergent?
I quadrupled the recipe thinking we needed WAY more than we did. Next time, will just double it. And we washed all the screens with it too.
I have always dreaded this job and put it off but our new house and view pushed me to get it done. So happy to have found this recipe! Thank you!

My father-in-law was a window washer in New York - doing the high rise windows. What he would use is water and ammonia to wash the windows. And in the winter would add some alcohol so it wouldn't freeze. Beautiful windows.

Ni Nursevic,

Sorry to hear this didn't work well for you. Some followers have found cleaning their windows in full sunlight during the hottest time of day worked best. I'd suggest giving this a try and see if you get better results. Good luck, Tracy

Hi CJ,

Thanks for giving this a try, sorry to hear it didn't work well for you. Some people have found cleaning their windows during the hottest time of the day worked best, while others found cooler temperatures were more effective. I'd suggest trying a different time of day and see if it helps. Best of luck, Tracy
