My wife has always made something similar to this called Potatos Anna in a round oven safe skillet. She gets good baking potatoes aof roughly the same size, washes and peels them well, layers them in a rosette pattern from the outside in, then layers thinly sliced onions and pours a little clarified butter over each layer and then begins again, until the skillet is layered full. Then she lays a very heavy oven safe dish on top to weigh down the potatoes into a crisp pie. I would bet that your Lipton Onion Soup Mix Potatoes would work well in the same fashion and we could leave out the thin sliced onions, making this a much easier side dish to prepare. it has all the same flavors. Litpon Onion Soup Mix Powder comes in both Beef and Beffy Mushroom flavors now so that would add a little flare to the Rosette Potatoes Anna she makes. I can’t wait to ask her to try this. When the Potatoes Anna comes out of the oven, it’s all crispy on the bottom but tender and buttery in the middle. You cut it in wedges just like a pie. It would make a great accompiment to an Eye-Round Roast, Yummy! If I can get her to make it, I;ll try and take a photo. If she’s too busy to make the Pie Rosette, we’ll try your stacked Ratatouille-type treament. Such great ideas for every day food. Thanks.

This sounds wonderful, however, I would not recommend this if you have any heart trouble. I have had two major attacks and the sodium in this might prove to be too much for some.

I’m sorry but….. it was way too greasy and way too salty. I did half of the above and we couldn’t even give the leftovers to the dog. It was a good concept and good flavor BUT I’d cut the butter and the soup mix in half, or less.
Sorry to be a party pooper….

ON the back of the lipton box they have a recipe almost like this. They want you to cube the potatoes (bigger than an inch chunks) Then you mix with oil and mix and toss into a pan. Cook for it seems like forever and they turn out delish. Everyone always wants me to make them. But I will def have to try this recipe. It sounds just as good if not better! I think I just found another website to follow. 🙂

My family loved these potatoes! I made a half recipe in an 8 x 8 pan, with only 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. It worked well to cover the pan for the first half of the baking time, as the recipe calls for, and then uncover the pan for the remainder of the time to crispen the tops of the potatoes. Thank you for an incredibly easy and delicious recipe.

Believe it or not..I accidently stumbled upon this recipe while searching for Monkey Butter. I am definitely making these to take to my family’s Thanksgiving dinner. I mean, you just can’t go wrong with potatoes in the first place..and here in the South Lipton’s is a food group so you REALLY can’t go wrong putting the 2 together. And let’s not forget the butter!! Shoot!….Honey Hush! LOL

We do a form of this as well, only I toss cubed potatoes with olive oil and then add the dry mix and mix all together then package into foil (as flat as you can) and put out on the grill or can cook in a 9×13 in the oven as well. I love this on the grill because there are always crunchy ones where it is hottest!
