Courage

by Bernard Waber

What is courage? Certainly it takes courage for a firefighter to rescue someone trapped in a burning building, but there are many other kinds of courage too. Everyday kinds that normal, ordinary people exhibit all the time, like “being the first to make up after an argument,” or “going to bed without a nightlight.” Bernard Waber explores the many varied kinds of courage and celebrates the moments, big and small, that bring out the hero in each of us.

Santosh and the Little Elephant Santosh the little elephant has a problem. A BIG, HUMONGOUS problem. His family has to move. Not just to another neighborhood, but across the ocean to another continent.

YES, ACROSS THE OCEAN!

That though isn’t the biggest problem he has. There is a SUPER-HUGE, GINOMOROUS problem on top of that. His dog, Cooper, isn’t able to go with the family to their new home.

What is Santosh to do? How can he convince his parents to let Cooper go with them?

Santosh has an idea! He has a great idea! But, will it work? And, if it doesn’t, then what? Will he accept his fate?

My oldest granddaughter (2 1/2) is already an avid book lover. I usually bring several books to “surprise” her with on each of my visits. I can’t wait add these to her collection.

Being a Nana is the BEST!

My name is Alexis Georges but my friends and family call me Alex. I very recently separated from my husband of 10 years. This separation ended badly due to my husband’s extra-marital activities. I found myself in a situation where I had to pick up my twins (Jacqueline and Rex) and move closer to my mother’s, about 8 hours away from the only home my children had ever known. (They’re both 8.) We have been settled now for almost a week and I must say they’re doing better. My friend Barbara recommended a children’s book about a little elephant named Santosh and his pug. Can you believe that? An elephant with a pug as a pet. It still tickles me just thinking about it. Anyway, I have to give this book a lot of credit because it deals with what I read on this site so frequently. Courage. He has to move and the book deals with him dealing with this difficult transition. And the overall theme is bravery and courage. I wanted to share it with you because it’s really helping the twins to deal with what we’re going through at the moment. Change, moving, being positive about the future. It’s all in that little book. I hope you will share it with your readers because it has helped me to simply let go and move forward for the sake of my two children. Thank you, Alex

      Hi Alexis,

I’m so sorry to hear of the difficult time you and your family are going through. At the same time, I am impressed with how you have chosen to face this trial. Your choice to be positive about the future is setting an example that will help your children throughout their lives. I have added the book Santosh the Little Elephant to this round-up. Our prayers and thoughts are with you! Warmly, Tracy, Deb, and Sherri

GrandmaDTS
Come join Sherri, Tracy and Debbie as we share fun ideas to do with grandkids! With 12 grandchildren between us (and more to come!) we are loving this time of life and want to share what we are doing to make lasting memories and to uplift and support our families. We hope you come back often!
