My grandkids in this family are 10, 7, 5 and 3.  Every one of them will love making this craft.  (They are BIG marshmallow lovers!)

Of course there will be plenty of eating chocolate on the way to make these so you may want to have some extra supplies on hand.

Marshmallow Snowman Craft

Items Needed:  Candy canes (If you can find straight peppermint sticks, those work great too), marshmallows, bag of black and vanilla frosting, orange gel, mini M&M’s, Hershey Kisses, Twizzlers,  and a screwdriver.   (Please clean before use!)

Instructions:

Remove plastic from the candy canes then break off the rounded top.

With the screwdriver, make a hole all the way through in the  marshmallows.

Insert the candy cane or peppermint stick into three marshmallows.

Place a dollop of white frosting in the hole of the top marshmallow.

Using the frosting as “glue” place a Hershey kiss on top for the hat.

Take a thin rope from the Twizzlers and tie around the “neck” of the snowman. 

With the vanilla frosting, “glue” some mini M&M’s onto the snowman as buttons.

With the black frosting, make two eyes for Mr. Snowman!

Make the carrot nose with a line of the orange gel.

Let the Marshmallow Snowman dry for a little while to help the frosting “set”.

Our cute little Marshmallow Snowmen are now ready to give away as a goodie gift.  That is, only if they don’t get eaten first!  No guarantees….

Emerald Green Paint from DecoArt Ultra Fine Green Glitter Paint
White Fuzzy Sticks (pipe cleaners)
Sparkling White Fuzzy Sticks (pipe cleaners)
Yellow Scrapbook Paper
Brown Striped or Corrugated Scrapbook Paper
Scissors
Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Embellishments
Coarse Glitter White by Martha Stewart
Paper Christmas Tree Jolee’s Boutique Embellishments
White Sugar Pearls by Wilton
Sprinkles White Sparkling Sugar by Wilton
Big Bag of Buttons from Favorite Findings 3.5 oz I

Instructions 

Figure out how many trees you are going to make, you will need 3 jumbo size craft sticks per tree. Paint your sticks the desired color, allow them to dry thoroughly.

Make a triangle with 3 sticks, gently lift up a corner and apply a small dab of hot glue, press down gently until the glue cools. Repeat the process with the other two corners of the triangle.

Glue your star and tree trunk on next.

Time to glue on an ornament hanger and buttons onto your tree.

Hi, I’m Lisa Mabey from Mabey She Made It, a DIY, craft, and sewing blog.

Last year I remember seeing lots of cone trees around Christmas time, and I loved them. They looked so simple and elegant. I never got around to making them though (I was going through some morning sickness and nothing got done last year). But when I was given some FloraCraft cones a few months ago, I knew what I wanted to do with them.

I started by referencing this pin which is a round-up of ideas. The variety and lovely details are what drew me to this pin. And so I started by creating a ruffled one.

Instead of using ribbon like they did in the tutorial, I tore some cotton and ruffled it. I like the torn look for this project because it gives the branches a little more detail without adding any work. And isn’t tearing fabric strips cathartic? I love that feeling.

Then just hot glue the ruffles around and around! I used three wooden beads on the bottom as a base to give this one a little more height.

The second tree was pretty easy to make, but took a little more time. I took a wrapped foam cone, and started winding the rope twine around the base, using pins to keep it in place. Then I covered it in Mod Podge and let it dry over night. Once it was dry, I was able to slip the cone out of the rope tree because of the plastic, and use the cone for the third tree.

The third one I did was the easiest. I started with pre-ruffled ribbon and glued it the same way.

This scalloped felt tree tutorial is not the project I had planned to share with you wonderful Made From Pinterest readers. No, I had other plans in mind. Big plans. Plans that included plastic forks. And spray paint …

Inspired by the plastic spoon tree that’s been all over Pinterest. It caught my eye …

and sparked my imagination …

and I thought I’d give it a fun twist with forks. Instead of spoons. Personally, I thought it was a stroke of brilliance. I mean, the tines on the fork would represent the needles on the tree.

Pure genius, right?

So I picked up some cheap forks at the grocery store. And started cutting. And plastic was flying this way and that. Tines in one direction, handles in the other. After five cuts, I gave up. Because the original tutorial called for 200+ spoon “heads” …

and because my dog was quivering in the corner …

and because, quite frankly, I like my DIY’s easy.

Enter the scalloped felt tree. Which I pinned here and here and here …

So much less risky than those flying plastic tines …

although, there is the hot glue gun to contend with.

How to Make a Scalloped Felt Tree

I started by cutting up felt pieces into 2” x 4” lengths …

Which I folded in half …

And free-hand cut circles …

When I thought I had enough circles cut (which I didn’t, so I had to cut more) I started hot gluing them on the form. Starting at the bottom …

Staggering the rows as I worked my way up …

Until I was done …

And now they look so cute on my holiday fantel mantel …

So much simpler than cutting the heads off of plastic forks!

Linda, thanks for another great post. We think the fork idea was genius too, but based on your experience we are not trying it! The felt trees sound like the way to go!
