Before we get to the free printable though, I wanted to share with you five of my favorite all time books.  I know that lots of people belong to book groups and I myself have participated in one for years.

I love being in a book club because I am exposed to and get to read books that I otherwise would not have chosen but that I now LOVE!  The following list is just that.  Books that I would not have known about but are now some of my favorites.

So here we go with my five top recommendations for books that you can read this summer!

1. Probably one of my all time favorite books is Left To Tell by Immaculee Ilibagiza.  Written about the Rwandan Holocaust that took place in 1994, it is a true story of great suffering and loss but also of immense faith and a determination to live.  In the end you will feel so uplifted.

2. Another favorite is The Rent Collector by Camron Wright.  In this fictional story, a woman’s life is chronicled as she lives near a trash dump in the country of Cambodia.  She discovers a secret about a neighbor which eventually changes her life.  I think I read this book in one day!

3. I like cats but am not a “cat person” so I was a little worried when A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen was our book for the month.  I didn’t look forward to reading it but I was SO glad that I did.  I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I was going to.  I was totally caught up in the relationship between Bob the Cat and his owner.   A true-story, surprise reading that was very enjoyable.

4. Kisses from Katie is an account of a courageous eighteen-year-old from Nashville who gave up every comfort and convenience to become the adoptive mother to thirteen girls in Uganda.  You won’t believe that she is only 18 and will be AMAZED at everything she had to go through to help the children in Uganda.  I still can’t almost believe that this is a true story.  This book caused the most discussion we have ever had in our book group.

5. If you are looking for a little bit more of a lighter read, then you should consider When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin.  Although this novel is written around the serious issue of heart disease, it ends up teaching us that miracles lurk around unexpected corners.  Since reading this book by Charles Martin, I’ve read a couple of other books written by him and have enjoyed them all.

A few years ago, I made some cootie catcher Valentines for my husband and son using scrapbook paper, and they were a big hit. This year, I decided to make some printable versions that anyone could use for their Valentine.

The idea for the printable cootie catcher Valentines came from this cool seasonal cootie catcher from Bren Did that I found on Pinterest.

I know you remember folding cootie catchers or fortune tellers when you were in school. Well, kids are still making them and having as much fun as we did!

For these free printables, I made one lovey-dovey version filled with sweet nothings, perfect to give to your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day.

Each flap opens to reveal a sweet, loving message.

Since I am also the mom of a 9-year-old boy who bristles at the thought of having to pass out any kind of remotely sappy Valentines to his classmates, I also made a boy-approved version.

In fact, there’s not a mention of Valentine’s Day at all on the boy version. Just lots of “punny” punchlines to the joke, “I really mustache you a question.”

When I made my original cootie catchers, I filmed a video tutorial that shows exactly how to fold one. You might find that useful as you’re making these.

First, you need to download the free printable of your choice.

Print it out on your home computer on a sheet of 8.5X11-inch paper. Then use scissors or a paper trimmer (this affiliate link is the one I use and recommend) to cut out the cootie catcher.

Fold the paper in half, left to right along the center line. Then unfold and fold, top to bottom, along the center line. Unfold and place the paper face down.

Fold the points to the center.

Then turn the cootie catcher over.

Fold each corner to the center again.

Like so.

And your cootie catcher is finished!

To play with it and start predicting your (romantic) future, just slide your thumb and index finger into the flaps on the underside.

Lift a flap to reveal your future.

Hi to all of The Made From Pinterest Fans! This is Melanie from Artzy Creations and I’m excited once again to share this coloring page with you. Lately, I’ve really gotten into creating coloring pages. I’ve been an art teacher now for over eighteen years and have always loved drawing. Both of my daughters have a great love for drawing too. Sometimes, when I couldn’t find just the right coloring pages for the girls, I would create my own for them. So, this Free Christmas Ornament Coloring Page was actually a special request by my oldest daughter who wanted some pretty ornaments to color in. Now, I’m sharing it with all of you! If you haven’t tried coloring a coloring page in awhile, (which I admit, I hadn’t done in a long time before I started creating these), you’re in for a real treat. Coloring pages are actually very relaxing and give your busy mind a chance to unwind just a little bit. So, why not give it shot and see what you think!

This is a great coloring page to keep the kiddos occupied over the upcoming Holiday break. Use crayons, colored pencils or markers… take your pick. You and your kids will love it!

Hey y’all. I’m Amy from Atta Girl Says, and I’m tickled to join the Made from Pinterest contributor team.

From my greeting, you may have guessed I’m from the South — North Carolina born and raised! I’m a cook, crafter, decorator, painter, hostess and consummate dabbler in all things domestic. One month, I might show up here with details about a new DIY or decorating project, and the next month, I might be showing you how to make some fun craft. My goal here and on my blog is to share ideas to make your home brighter and your heart lighter.

This month, I decided to bring a dish from the kitchen since it’s the peak of the summer growing and canning season.

I’m sharing a recipe for delicious Homemade Strawberry Jam & Canning Printables, too, for a variety of homemade preserves and pickles.

This is a recipe from my mama’s kitchen. Aren’t the best recipes always the hand-me-down variety? I’m pretty sure she got it out of the Sure-Jell box years ago, but I still think it counts as a family recipe!

Butter my buns and call me a biscuit! This is good stuff!

Homemade Strawberry Jam

Once you have these delicious homemade jam, made with fresh strawberries, you'll never eat store-bought jam again!

Course Canning

Cuisine Condiments

Servings 8 1-cup jars

Author Amy Buchanan

Ingredients

• 2 quarts strawberries stems removed, cut and crushed to make 5 cups
• 1 box SURE-JELL Fruit Pectin
• 1/2 teaspoon butter
• 7 cups sugar
• 8 1- cup canning jars with rings and lids

Instructions

• Wash jars and rings with hot water and soap (or in the dishwasher.) Rinse well.
• Place jar lids in a sauce pan and cover with boiling water.
• Fill a canner half full with water and simmer.
• Place sliced, crushed strawberries, measuring five cups, into a 6-ounce or 8-ounce stock pot.
• Add pectin to berries, and stir to combine. To reduce foam, add 1 teaspoon butter. Bring to a full boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
• Add sugar and stir.
• Return to a full, rolling boil and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
• Remove from heat and skim off foam.
• Ladle into clean, dry jars, leaving 1/4-inch of space at the top. Wipe jars and seal with lids and bands.
• Place jars in canning rack and lower into the water, making sure there's 1 to 2 inches of water covering the jars.
• Process for 10 minutes and remove jars from canner. Place them upright on a towel.
• Once jars are completely cooled, check the seals by pressing the center of each lid. If the lids spring back when touched, they're not properly sealed and they must be refrigerated.

Since it’s that time of year when the garden and the farmer’s market are bountiful with fresh fruit and produce, I find myself doing a fair bit of canning of pepper jelly, watermelon rind pickles, pickles and more. So, I made some pretty labels to go on the jars so they’ll look pretty in my pantry or when I give these as food gifts.

All these labels are designed to print on 2-inch round Avery labels (look for #22817 or #22807 when you’re shopping).

There’s a vintage-inspired strawberry jam label, created with this free image from the Graphics Fairy, to accompany this recipe.

It never fails.  Anytime we have someone staying with us, the poor things have to go out of their way and ask us, “What is the Wi-Fi,” password here?”

Not that I’m bothered by them asking at ALL, but I knew it was time to give ’em what they needed, and take out the trouble of them having to ask us.

So, when I saw an idea of how someone else displayed their Wi-Fi password, I knew it was something that I needed to do, like…PRONTO.  I originally found the idea on Pinterest, from Michelle, over at EleganceandEnchantment.  Lucky you, she even GIVES you the download  of her design, so you can edit your password in, and make it your own!

But, if you follow me over on Fantabulosity, you know I always seem to think I have to make “tweaks,” to something… so I did.  Although I love Michelle’s design, I wanted a little bit of a “nautical/modern,” theme to mine, to go with the rest of my guest room decor.

So where and how did I create mine?  I created it over on Canva.com.  Lucky lucky, they had super cute arrow images, that I was fond of, and just found a couple of fonts that I loved, and typed it all out.  It seriously only took me 5 minutes.  LOVE those types of DIY’s!

Other Wi-Fi password printables that I have seen, are usually framed in an 8×10.  For my guest room, I felt that size overpowered the room.  My guests aren’t there to just use the wi-fi, so I figured I’d let the other room decor stand out, rather than a big printable.    I chose to print it, and frame it in a 5×10.  I’m so glad that I did… it looks fabulous on my little night stand.

I don’t do it very often, but I really enjoy water coloring. I love the relaxation it gives me and the effects I can get with just color and water. So when I saw this Slow Down, Enjoy Life printable I was inspired. I loved the way the font paired with the flowers. And although it isn’t watercolored, it made me think about watercoloring.

So I pulled up Illustrator and chose a fun quote and left LOTS of white space around it. Then I pulled up a photo of shamrocks, and started sketching a few around my quote.

When I was satisfied with my sketch, I pulled out the ink, water, and brushes and started painting. After drying I added in some quick little details with a marker, and it was done!

I love that it was pretty quick, but I still was able to come up with something I love for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day season.

It was so much fun, that I thought I’d like to share it with you. So I turned it into a free 8×10 printable you can share or keep for yourself.

I love Valentine’s Day. It’s no secret I love any excuse to celebrate, and what could be better than a day dedicated to sharing love with the people most important to you?

As a kid I was always so excited for Valentine’s Day. Of course, I was in it for the candy. I might have quickly glanced at the “from” part of the card to find the name, but I really just wanted to see what treat they stuffed in that little white envelope.

As a teenager, I thought I was so clever when I came up with a “community valentine.” I figured no one really cared about the sentiment, they just wanted the candy. So at school on Valentine’s Day I carried around one single valentine and a tin of treats.

As I ran across a friend that day, I would hand them the valentine to read. I’m sure I spent hours composing the very heartfelt and sincere message: “This is a community valentine. Please read it and give it back. Happy Valentine’s Day! Love, Melanie” Obviously they must have been overwhelmed at my gushy-ness and many tears were shed. Then they would hand back the valentine and take a handful of candy.

Heartfelt and sincere, people. It’s just who that teenage girl was.

Now I like to put a little more effort into my Valentines. But let’s be real here… it’s still all about the treats. We are HUGE popcorn fans around here, and I am an even HUGER fan of simplicity. So this year my Valentines are combining a popcorn treat and a simple valentine.

Caramel popcorn is my weakness. I am a complete sucker for that chewy, caramel-y goodness. I have the most fabulous recipe that I shared at Forty Eighteen yesterday right HERE.

For these valentines I made up a batch of caramel popcorn, put a few handfuls in a cute cellophane bag, and tied on a tag for a great, tasty treat that shows my love. I mean, seriously, if I share my caramel popcorn with you… it’s true love.

But then it was time to get even simpler! Naturally I turned to Pinterest where I found these cute tags at Birds Party Blog and this cute valentine at Crazy Little Projects and was inspired to make some of my own. Not gonna lie. I kind of love them.

I picked up a box of microwave popcorn at Costco for my kids’ class valentines. It was nice of Costco to make their packaging red for me — so perfect for my valentines!

Making these popcorn valentines couldn’t be any easier. First, choose the tags you want and print them out – regular white copy paper is perfect. Click on each image to go to the download page. You can choose your favorite sentiment or print a variety page that includes all of them.

Use a 2.5-inch circle punch or cut them out by hand. Then it’s time to add to the cuteness level, so use a 3.5-inch scalloped circle and some scrapbook paper to embellish your tags. You can do this part by hand, too, but I would choose a simpler shape. Just stick the circle to the scallop and it’s ready to go!

While you’re cutting, you are going to need some strips of white cardstock, so go ahead and do that, too. Mine are 1.5 inches.

Finally it’s time to assemble. Wrap a strip of white cardstock around a microwave popcorn bag. The ends don’t touch quite, so use a piece of clear tape to tape the ends down. Stick a tag to the front and you’re done. Voila! Instant cute valentines!

We’ve created a super-handy printable that you can use to get kids excited about writing thank-you notes.  We designed it so that kids can color one side and write on the other.  Aaaaand, it’s not holiday specific, so you can use this template year round for any occasion!

‘Tis the Season….for giving and receiving!  And we’ve made a FREE printable for you that is just perfect for teaching kids to show appreciation for all of the gifts that they’ve received.

Scroll down to download the PDF file below and print it out on your computer or send it off to your local copy store and let them print it for you.

The printable file will print four postcards per page.  When trimmed, each postcard meets U.S. Postal service regulations for size and shape, and only costs $0.34 to mail.  (We recommend printing these on sturdy cardstock.)

One side of the postcard is blank.  It’s the perfect spot for kids to use their imagination to create a special work of art for the recipient of their postcard.

The other side has just enough room for a note of thanks, an address, and a stamp.

You’ll notice that we’ve kept the postcard pretty simple and it is not holiday specific.  This is one you can use year round, for any occasion!

Our little helpers went the extra mile by pulling out craft scissors to cut their postcards so that they would have decorative edges.  Nice!

I love incorporating natural elements into my holiday decor, so it was fun to add this printable to the mix.  Pine cones are plentiful in my neighborhood.  Snow is not…..so I had to add a few snowflakes with fabric and ceramics!

In America, we celebrate our day of Thanksgiving in November.  Whether you celebrate an American Thanksgiving or not, there’s something about the bounty of a Fall harvest that makes you stop and think of your blessings.  That’s why this month, we wanted to share a printable that would reflect how grateful we are for all we’ve been given.  It’s a beautiful reminder from a verse of scripture:

“In all things give thanks.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

We’re offering this as a free printable to you.  It’s sized to fit a 8×10 frame.

You might consider printing out several of these to frame and give as gifts to friends as a holiday gift.  Do it now and you can cross that off your list long before December!

There’s just something about the change in the weather to cooler temperatures and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot that makes me take a step back and look at the world around me with fresh eyes.  I think that’s why I love this quote from F. Scott Fitzergerald’s The Great Gatsby so much:

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

I thought it was the perfect sentiment to share alongside a fall vignette.  So….we turned it into a printable that is perfectly sized for an 8×10 frame!

I had fun finding some touches of fall to put around my framed quote.  I shopped my house and one of my favorite grocery stores to put together this little Autumn display.

The vase is a favorite find from Target last spring.  I love the little yellow sculpted flower–it reminds me of a chrysanthemum or dahlia!  Since the printable is so literary, I had to have some books nearby.  I pick up vintage Reader’s Digest Condensed books whenever I find them at thrift shops, because the covers have such pretty colors and patterns.  I drew a pile of pumpkins on my chalkboard.  Since fall foliage isn’t very spectacular in my area, I keep a few of these fabric leaves on hand to use in my Fall decor every year.  The flowers and gourds came from Trader Joe’s.  (In case you haven’t heard, they have incredible prices on fresh flowers!)

See those teeny-tiny pumpkins?  They actually come on branches, and they are known as pumpkin trees.  They are a type of ornamental eggplant.  Who knew?  I think they are adorable, and so fun to decorate with throughout the harvest season.  I think they are sold by many florists, but you can definitely find them at Trader Joe’s, this time of year.

After taking that picture, I did a little rearranging and added one of my favorite things into the vignette, this sweet wooden fox.  What is it about foxes that make them so perfect for Fall decorating?

On one of my many visits to Pinterest, I noticed a black and white printable that helps you to remember these measurements. I loved the idea and thought “this would be great in color”. I hopped on my computer and got to work. Once I created the printable in color, I realized I could make it even easier to read by labeling each letter with the corresponding measurement. With my feeble brain I need things to be simple as possible.

I’ve placed a copy of this printable in my kitchen cabinet, in my cookbook and one on my fridge. Which means no more liquid measurement confusion for me!

I love the elegance of the design and simplicity of the chain. I didn’t have the brown shade of paper that they used, so instead I cut a regular grocery bag into 8.5 X11 size and ran it through my printer. It turned out great! I plan to have our family “add” to the chain during meal times. Or any time they would like to.

Sherri gave me some of the best advice last year while I was planning my daughter’s wedding. I was stressing out about too many of the small details, she did what only a sister could get away with. She put her arm around me and said “Tracy, KISS….keep it simple stupid”! I burst out laughing. Guess what? Sherri was right,  by letting go of some things that were not that important I was able to relax and ENJOY every minute of my daughter’s special day.

My question for you is, what are you grateful for? Grab some paper, print your Thankful Chain…..and start counting your blessings. Oh, and by the way KISS.
