My kids never go in our backyard. Some days, I have to force them out the door. Confession: I am a last-minute mom. I am the mom who gets the birthday gift on the way to the party and wraps it in the car. I am the mom who rushes to drop my kids off at school in my sweats. I was a little nervous to make them but I have tasted homemade marshmallows before and they were UH-MAZING!  Like pretty much anything else homemade, they are SO much better than store bought.  Seriously.  You will love them.

Here’s what you need to get started:

Combine the gelatin and 1/2 cup of cold water in a small bowl.  Whip lightly with a whisk. Let set.

In a medium to large saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, salt, and 1/2 cup water. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.

Scoop out the set gelatin and add it to the hot sugar mix.  The gelatin should look like this:

After the gelatin melts, turn the heat up a little and cook until your mixture reaches 240 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat. Add vanilla to your mixture.

I love sprinkles more than anything. Last year, my birthday cake was completely covered in sprinkles! We used a whole container of them! I just can’t get enough of those colorful little things. But one thing that I’ve found (at least in my experience) is that I always have containers of sprinkles in my cupboards. And they sit there for years! I’m not sure if they expire, but they just sit there for what seems like forever.

I love having plants throughout my house and this Macrame Hanging Basket is the perfect way to display some greenery without taking up table space. This entire tutorial will take you less than 15 minutes to complete!

To make your own hanging basket you will need:

• Rope – at least 24 yards
• A container/pot
• Scissors

To get started you need to measure 4 lengths of rope, each 6 meters long. Find the center of all 4 rope piece and tie them together in a firm knot. This is going to be the center of your basket.

Once you’ve tied the initial knot, separate out all 4 legs and place your plant in the middle. You are looking to find the edge of the pot to determine where the next level of knots needs to go.

Tie a knot into each of the 4 legs right where the pot will sit. This is how your basket takes shape.

Separate out the rope again . You will be making another layer of knots, this time separating the initial 4 knots and combining them to create a weave. Start in the left bottom corner and tie the upper corner rope the the bottom corner of the set in the top left corner.

Continue your knots around in a clockwise pattern. You should have something that looks like a square when you are finished.

Repeat the same process, going around one more time. If you have a very large pot, you may need to do a 3rd level of knots. For a small pot like the one pictured, 2 sets should be enough.

Your finished basket will look like the picture above. Now you need to place your pot into the basket to give it shape. Stretch the knots around so that the pot is secure in the holder.

Pull up on the ropes so that all the strands are above the basket. Make a firm knot with all 8 rope segments. This is where you will hang your pot so double and triple knot the rope if you need to.

You are now ready to hang your plant on a hook and enjoy!

I have been obsessed with all things pineapple lately. My favorite fruit has been popping up in lots of crafts and home decor projects.

Aren’t these etched pineapple water goblets adorable?

Especially when you add some pineapple juice ice cubes to them. (I got my pineapple ice cube trays from World Market, FYI.)

I have done several etched glass projects, and it’s a great way to get a high-end look for not much money. And etching glass is easier than you think, too, especially with some of the new formulations of low-odor etching creams available.

I used DecoArt’s resuable Easy Etch cream for this project, but any glass etching product will work. Just be sure to check the manufacturer’s directions to know how long to leave the product on the glass. The water goblets are from the dollar store, but you could do this project on any kind of clear drinking glasses.

I found a pineapple stencil I liked from Smirking Goddess. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut a stencil from vinyl.

After weeding the design from the vinyl, I used my transfer paper to apply the stencil to the goblets. Be sure the glasses are clean and smudge-free. I usually wipe them down with rubbing alcohol and allow to air dry.

Since the glass is not flat, the stencil will wrinkle some, and that’s OK. Just make sure that you press firmly all over the design, so that etching cream doesn’t seep under the stencil and ruin the design. Use a clean cloth, not your fingers, to press the stencil so you don’t get fingerprints or oil on the glass.

While wearing gloves, use a plastic knife apply a thick coat of Easy Etch cream to the glass.

Allow the etching cream to sit on the glass for 15 minutes. If you’re using Easy Etch, after 15 minutes, use the plastic knife to scrape the etching cream off the glass and return it to the jar. Then rinse under cold water until completely removed, and remove the stencil. (For other etching creams, you just wipe and rinse away the excess.)

These are going to be so fun to use for a tropical luncheon or beach-themed party. And I have the perfect healthy, fruity drink to serve in them: homemade Hawaiian POG juice.

And don’t think you have to just use pineapples for your design. You can etch all kinds of fun images and personalizations onto glassware using this technique.

We have a weekly preschool co-op that meets together for fun activities like crafts, Bible stories, movement and motion games, and learning letters. We are just about to wrap up our year before taking a break over the summer and I wanted to do something that would tie into Mother’s Day as well as reinforce the concepts we’ve been practicing.

Tape Resist Letter Art

Supplies

• craft paint
• paint brush
• card stock
• painter’s tape
• ready and willing 4 year old

Step 1– Peel off strips of tape to use to build whatever letter you are working on. Charlie has been working on his letters for a while, so I just gave him the strips and he put them in the right place. If you are working with younger kids, it might be helpful to draw thin pencil lines on the paper to act as a guide for placing the tape properly.

Step 2– Make sure the tape is pressed down tightly onto the paper and then paint right over the top of it! The results are the most dramatic if you fill up every bit of empty space, so color all the way to the edges. We went with basic color blocking with bold “boy” colors that appealed to Charlie. You can use the same paint brush and just rinse it out between colors.

Step 3– After the paint dries, slowly and carefully peel away the tape to reveal the letter! This is a great fine motor skill to practice, too. Say it with Charlie…”M is for MOM!”

I’m so excited to be joining you on Made from Pinterest, and I am looking forward to sharing some of my favorite projects with you! This fun project is very low cost and would be perfect for decorating for a party.

Project Supplies

White Vinegar
Food Coloring
Coffee Filters (9 per flower)
Straw
Floral Tape (optional)

Step 1: Dye the Petals 

The most time consuming portion of this project is dying your filters. Just like Easter Eggs, creating a quick dye with vinegar, hot water and food coloring will help your filters soak up the dye and become a vibrant color.

To create an ombre look, I used three containers with different amounts of food coloring in each. The lightest color (bottom bowl) has 3 drops of red dye. The middle color has 6 drops and the top color (and most vivid) has 12 drops.

For an ombre look separate out 3 coffee filters for each color. Bunch up your filters into teepees and place them into the dye. Allow the filters to sit for 5-10 minutes so the dye can soak into the paper. Once you see streaks going up the filters feel free to push the rest of the filters into the dye to soak fully. This helps create a darker outer edge on your petals. 

Remove the wet filters and place them aside to dry. The dye could leave a mark on your counter so I recommend placing the filters on a platter or newspaper.

Step 2: Cut the Petals

Once the filters are fully dry fold into 1/4 shaped pieces. Stack all 9 filters together and cut a half circle around the edge of your flower.

When you open up the filters they will not all be the same shape. This helps give each petal character and texture.

Step 3: Shape the Carnation

Fold your lightest color filters into 1/8 shapes. This will be the center of your flower. Using a hot glue gun (or other glue of your choice) begin to attach your petals to the straw. Move around the straw covering it entirely.

For your next layer of color, fold the three filters into 1/4 shapes. Repeat the same process as before moving in segments around the straw to glue down the petals.

For the outer petals (and darkest color) cut the coffee filters in half.

Place a string of glue around the base of the flower. Wrap the half cut shapes around the outside. Repeat this with all 6 pieces.

Your completed flower will look like the image below. If you plan to store the flowers for a future event, or travel with them to a different location, this is the best way to transport them. If you wish to have a green stem (instead of a noticeable straw like I used) now is the time to wrap the base of the flower with floral tape. Cover the bottom portion of the filter and down the stem covering up all of the straw that will be visible after placing into a vase.

Step 4: Fluff out the petals

When you are ready to display the flowers begin to fluff out the petals by separating each of the coffee filter petals individually. You should be able to see some of the sections you created in the interior of the flower.

As you separate the sections add texture by crunching some sections and straightening others. Continue to fluff until you are happy with the shape of your flower.

Make a full bouquet of different colors or create a dozen for your next party! I love using paper flowers to add a quick seasonal touch to my home decor and I don’t feel like I have to save them for another use when I’m done with them.

Learn how to make Gluten Free Pie Crust from scratch with this easy step-by-step tutorial!

I don’t know about you, but the holiday season is my absolute favorite time of the year. Everyone is so jolly, people start decorating their houses with breathtaking light displays, and, of course, everyone makes a load of pies!

I bounce back and forth on which pie is my favorite, but I’ve narrowed it down to two—pumpkin pie and chocolate pie.

But I think we all know that the backbone of any good pie recipe is the crust. So today I’ll be showing you with a visual step-by-step tutorial how to make the most amazing Gluten Free Pie Crust you’ll ever eat!

Shall we get started?

So to start off, combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl and give it a good whisk to combine.

Next cut the butter into cubes and toss into the dry mixture. You can alternatively use solid coconut oil for this recipe, but keep in mind it won’t have the same flavor as a butter-dough would.

Using a pastry cutter or two butter knives, cut the butter into the flour mixture until the overall mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

I really recommend purchasing a pastry cutter, as this makes the whole pie crust-making process much smoother and easier. It’s also a great arm workout!

So this is what it should look like after you cut in the butter, more or less. I probably could have cut in my butter more than I did, but knowing me I was probably just too excited to eat the pie that I got a little careless and cocky.

Then just pour in your ice water and pop in an egg yolk, give it a good stir. Once it gets too hard to stir with a spoon, start kneading it with your fingers, until a cohesive dough forms.

 Then all that’s left to do is press the dough into a disk, wrap it in parchment paper or plastic wrap, and pop it in the fridge for at least an hour to chill, or up to 3 days.

If you wanna freeze the crusts for later use, you can just pop them in the freezer and they’ll keep for up to three months.

When you’re ready to use the pie crust, roll it out on a floured surface (gluten-free flour, of course) until it’s 10 or more inches in diameter.

• 1/2 cup ice water
• 1 egg yolk

Instructions

• In a medium-sized bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk to combine.
• Cube the butter and add it to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or two butter knives, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
• Pour in the ice water and add the egg yolk and stir with a wooden spoon to combine. When it gets too hard to stir, start using your fingers to knead the dough. Since this is gluten free pie crust, you don't have to worry about over-kneading the dough.
• Use your hands to shape the dough into a ball, packing it together firmly. Flatten the dough ball into a disk and wrap with plastic wrap or parchment paper.
• Refrigerate the dough for at least one hour, or up to 3 days. You can also freeze the dough at this point.
• After the dough has chilled, roll it out until it reaches 10 inches in diameter.
• Carefully drape the rolled pie crust over your pie pan and press into the pan. Crimp the edges with your fingers or a fork.
• Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to chill. Fill with whatever pie filling you'd like. Continue as instructed on pie recipe.

This is Carole from My Kitchen Escapades and do I have something great for you. I have always seasoned my taco meat mixing up my favorite yummy spices in my cabinet. It is what my mom did when I was a kid so I had no idea what the stuff from those envelopes ever tasted like. Then this summer came along and I was asked to be the camp cook for over 100 girls. Since I had to prepare over 30 pounds of ground beef, I decided to take the short cut and buy a big jar of pre-made taco seasoning. I didn’t really think twice about that decision….until it came time to eat our walking tacos that night for dinner.I kept taking bites of my walking taco trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with it. It tasted so bland and the meat was all pasty and nasty. Let’s just say I have taken a sacred vow to never use the prepared seasoning packets junk ever again.

If you have never made taco seasoning from scratch, I will forgive you but only if you raise your right hand right now….yes, now….and also vow to never buy those packets ever again. This recipe comes together in less than 2 minutes and your taco loving life will never be the same again.

• 2 Tb chili powder
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
• 1/2 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tsp paprika
• 1 Tb cumin
• 2 tsp salt
• 2 tsp pepper

Instructions

1. Mix all the spices together and store in an airtight container. To use, combine 2-3 Tb with one pound of cooked ground beef. The amount depends on how seasoned you like your taco meat.

Now, when I got to thinking about a fall craft I saw this DIY fall leaf bowl in so so many Pinterest posts that I had to go explore the project. I figure when more than one crafty gal has made an attempt at a project it must be good, right? That is until I started reading the comments on these posts…so many fails! I was a bit leery about trying it myself, but with the small material investment these need and a forearmed with a lot of reading on best methods, I took the plunge! When my DIY leaf bowl came out just perfect, I was more than happy with the results, and I’m thrilled to be able to pass this how-to on.

Materials:

• Plastic wrap
• 50 or so fabric leaves (purchase at the Dollar Store for best value)
• Fabric Stiffener

Find a nicely shaped glass bowl that is a fairly good size in your cupboard and cover the outside in plastic wrap.

We’ll start making the bowl in a minute, but one step you really need to take to get your leaves to stick flatly to the bowl is to iron them all as flat as you can. If you’ve bought some leaves with a plastic stem, take that part off entirely, then iron them out. Even the Dollar Store ones that come without plastic pieces will need ironing. They aren’t going to go entirely flat, but do as much as you can! For the record, I bought two bags of leaves and just sorted out the red to red-orange leaves that I liked most to use.

Now we start making our bowl. I read a lot of tutorials that used Modge Podge instead of fabric stiffener. If that’s all you have, it does work, but there were a many more people with bowls that didn’t work out with it. Fabric stiffener is really inexpensive and you could easily make 9 or 10 bowls with what comes in a small bottle.

I painted a layer of fabric stiffener onto the plastic wrap before I started laying on my leaves. Looking back, I don’t know if that was necessarily needed, but it helped keep them in place as I added them to the bowl. Place your leaves around the bowl so they overlap, painting the back of each one with fabric stiffener and adding leaves until you cover the bowl. For mine, I made sure all the bottoms of the leaves pointed to the bottom of the bowl so when it was un-molded all the leaves would prettily point up and out. For good measure, I spread an extra coat of stiffener over the leaves once everything was in place.

Let your leaf bowl dry completely. I left mine overnight so there was no question as to its level of dryness. Take the plastic and leaves carefully off you glass bowl. It *should* come off fairly easily. Gently coax it off if it gives you any trouble. Everything is going to be one solid sheet of flexible leafy glue, so you’ll be fine bending it around a bit if you need to.

Once the leaves are off the bowl, carefully peel out the plastic. There were a few little pieces of extra glue I had to pick off the tips of my leaves, but after that, you’ll be ready to make your DIY Fall Leaf Bowl a pretty decoration for the season!

The bowl is fairly light weight, so it won’t be as sturdy as a glass bowl, but it will certainly be able to handle a few pine cones or faux pumpkins!

Hello. Amber from rick•a•bam•boo here with another fun DIY post for you. I am so excited that fall is upon us. It’s my favorite season and it contains my favorite holiday. I love, love, love Halloween. So I thought I would take this chance to share a Halloween craft with all of you.

We all know that Halloween is all about the candy. So why not have a count down to the most candy filled day of the year?

My mom found this super cute Halloween count down from I Heart Naptime last year and we just had to make them. And yes, it is actually 53 days until Halloween. So it is time to panic about costumes. Sorry.

We used her instructions as a guide and made a few small tweaks here and there to better suit our needs. We each purchased:

• Four  5 1/2″ x 6′ fence boards and cut them into 2 foot lengths
• Two  2″ x 2″ x 8′ boards and them cut to 5 1/2 feet

Note: I would buy the boards about a week before you plan to make this project and take them home to let them dry. We thought we chose ones that were pretty dry and went home and cut and assembled our signs. The next day we had slight gaps between the boards from them drying out more at home overnight.

To assemble, we just hammered the fence boards to the 2 x 2 pieces of wood. Don’t worry about lining the boards up to make straight sides. It looks best a little wonky.

Once it was assembled we used a 1:1 ratio of white craft paint to water to give the sign a white wash.  When the wash was dry we used a candy corn shape cut from the silhouette to stencil on a scattering of candy corns. Our candy corns are 5″ x 3.8″.

Start with the white and fill the candy shape as much with white as you like. Then move to the yellow and last paint the orange. By going lightest to darkest we were able to free hand them without any issues. They aren’t perfect lines but they still look great.

We also used the same fonts she did, which were Crackhouse, Addict, and Adler. I downloaded them free online. I just Googled the names to find their free sources. Then I set to work figuring out which font we wanted for which text and how big to make it.

“It’s all about the” – Crackhouse at 400.25 pt
“CANDY!” – Addict at 390 pt
“Days until trick or treating” – Alder at 250 pt
numbers – Didot at about 348 pt

Note: You might have to break up some of the words in order to fit them on to the sheets of cardstock. We had a couple of single letters that we had to tack on to the end of a couple words.

We then cut all of the text from cardstock using the Silhouette. Then, using painters tape or masking tape we gently taped the text in place. There is such a big white area on the bottom so that you can stack pumpkins and other fall/Halloween decor there with your sign.

Once we were happy with how it looked it was time to paint. Using a sponge brush, get paint on the brush, dab off the excess, and lightly apply a thin layer of paint while holding the stencil firmly to the sign. You will want to do a couple layers to get the text nice and dark.

For our numbers we decided that we wanted to make ours weatherproof. We cut the numbers from white cardstock using the Silhouette and mounted them to black cardstock cut to 4 1/4″ x 6 1/2″. Once the adhesive had dried we ran them through the laminator to make them waterproof.

We chose to mount them to the sign with a 1 1/2″ piece of velcro at the top and bottom of each number. That way the numbers couldn’t flap up in the breeze. We adhered the hook half of the velcro to the top of the numbers and the loop part we put on the bottom of all the numbers. Then we used the opposite on the boards to make them stick.

The spider up in the corner we found at Dollar Tree and just velcroed him up there as well.

We joked about making it so you could put three digits up so that you can just start over on November 1st and leave it out all year. However, I think the neighbors might not like their kids counting down to Halloween all year long.

Today I am going to show you how to make these super chic DIY Altoid Gift Tins.

You can make these gift tins with any paper, but in order to get them super chic and this pretty, you will need to get a Minc Foil Applicator from Heidi Swapp.  This machine can be found in your local Michael’s, JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby Craft Stores.  It is a cinch to use and let me tell you, IT CHANGES EVERYTHING!  I mean seriously, your craft projects will go from drab to fab with this baby!

Items needed for this project:  Heidi Swapp paper, foil and the Minc Foil applicator, razor cutter, scissors, paint brush or foam brush, Mod Podge.  A cutting mat is also nice.

After you have chosen your papers and have applied the foil, you will need to trace the Altoid box onto the backside of your paper.  You will need four paper designs: the outside top, the outside bottom, the inside top and the inside bottom.  They can either be the same paper design or different as you will see on mine later on.

Cut out two of this shape of your patterned paper.  This will be for the outside top and bottom.  Then for the two insides, cut on the inside of your drawn line and try placing them inside of the tin box.  If they do not fit, continue cutting around the box shape until they both fit into the inside of your box.

TIP:  If you are going to make more than one of these boxes, now is  a good time to trace these templates onto your other paper for your other boxes so that you don’t have to keep measuring for every box.

Mod Podge on the top of your tin box:

Place the cut-out of your paper onto the top of the box and press firmly.  It will be a little bumpy because the altoid letters are raised.  Let dry.  After it is dry, place upside down and with a razor cutter, cut any excess paper that is hanging over the edges.  Do this all around your box.

Next, measure and cut for the three strips that you will need.  One for the strip on the lid, one for the strip on the bottom and one for the strip that will go inside your box.

Don’t you just love these papers by Heidi Swapp?  They are preprinted and ready to just insert into the Minc machine to appy the foil.  Easy Peasy.

Again, once you have measured these three strips, if you are making more than one box, mark the widths on the other paper that you are going to use.

I have found it easiest to apply the rest of your paper to the tin box in this order:

1.  Mod Podge around the bottom of the tin and apply the strip for the bottom.  Press firmly around the corner edges so the paper strip does not gap.  I had my strip meet in the back of the tin.

2.  Following the same process, apply the smallest strip around the lid.  You will need to cut around the hinges and you can do that with the razor cutter.

3.  Apply the third strip around the inside of the box.

4.  Now Mod Podge and insert your paper for the bottom inside of the tin and then do the inside top.

5.  Lastly, Mod Podge the outside of the bottom of your tin.  Let dry and then once again,  cut around the edges for any paper that is hanging over.

That’s it!

Here are some photos of the ones that I made.  The papers are all from Heidi Swapp and I loved how they coordinated.

Heidi also has some great embellishments that you can foil and add like this darling butterfly that I added to this one.  Again, her paper embellishments are preprinted and just ready to foil!

You can fill these with SO many things:  jewelry, ear buds, keys, spare coins, etc.  But I chose…Candy! Oh yeah. Look how perfectly these six little Dove chocolates fit inside this box! And the gold foil matches perfectly.

These were super fun and I can’t wait to give them away as gifts.  I hope you are inspired by these (as I was when I saw them on Craftster) and that you will make your own! I promise that you will love them!

Our drawers over here in the Frog Prince Paperie household seem to accumulate t-shirts like crazy, the kids especially! If you’ve ever gotten a t-shirt “sized for children” you know that nine times out of ten they are ginormous. While I’m still looking for a way to fix this problem for my son, sizing down and making t-shirts cute for my daughter is a remarkably easy project, and I’m going to show you how.

How perfect would this be for a cute swim cover or running shirt? There are a bazillion tutorials out there on upcycling t-shirts, but this project was inspired by this DIY T-shirt Hack by Stickleberry. Click here for the pin!

This particular t-shirt wasn’t made out of a camp cast-off. I used freezer paper to stencil on one of my daughter’s favorite words–“epic.” This was also super easy, and you’ll be able to find it on the Frog Prince Paperie website shortly!

I told you this project was easy, right? So easy, all you’ll need is your t-shirt and a pair of scissors!

Materials:

• Tshirt (at least one size too big)
• Scissors

Cut your t-shirt according to the picture. Cut off the bottom hem, the sleeves and the neck hole. I cut mine for a 9-year old girl that lives in Florida and hates layering her clothes. Feel free to cut deeper armholes and a lower neckline on yours–and if you don’t get it right the first time, it’s easy to cut a little more to get the look you want!

Take the bottom hem piece and cut it so you end up with one long string. If you have any little tags on the string, be sure to remove them.

Turn the t-shirt so the front is facing down on your flat surface. Gather the material in the back between the armholes together so you can bind it together.

Here’s a close up of how that should look. Take your cut hem and wrap it around the gathered material, starting at what should be the bottom and working your way up, then back down again. Be sure to leave extra string when you start so you’ll have enough room to tie it off.

Tie off your string so the knot faces inward and isn’t visible when the shirt is on. Trim off the extra string, and your t-shirt is ready to wear! No sewing, and about a 5 minute process to do. I just love quick projects like these!

Personally, I think these t’s look better after a washing where the edges curl under, but they’re super cute fresh off the cutting table, too. So easy to cut a little more summer style into a boxy t-shirt!

Disclosure:  I have received product in exchange for this post but all opinions are 100% mine. And seriously, how could you not 100% like foil??!!

So it’s spring and I have a couple of friends who need a little spring “pick me up” so I decided to make these DIY Gift Boxes to cheer them up!  I’ve seen a method of making this box using a paper plate but when you have a Minc machine, paper plates just will NOT do! Heidi’s motto is to “Make Pretty Stuff”, so we are going to make these boxes pretty! Even though there are lots of ways to add foil to a project, I can tell you here and now that this is the EASIEST and most consistent way there is.  Here is what you will need:

The Heidi Swapp Minc Foil Applicator which you can find in your local Michael’s or Jo-Ann’s as well as some local craft stores and online.

Heidi Swapp 12″ Paper and Foil color of your choice

Two sided  tape or hot glue

That’s it!

Heidi’s paper comes in a 12″x12″ sheet which lends itself perfectly for the foil which comes in a roll of 12″ x 10′.  One thing that I really love about this Minc foil applicator is that it heats up in literally minutes and it’s ready to go.  After inserting my paper and foil into the machine, I am ready for the next step.  See how quick that was?   (For more details on how to use this machine, refer to my last month’s post HERE.)

On the white/back side of your paper, draw a circle using a bowl or a plate.  I used one of Costco’s 10″ paper plate. I know.  Pretty fancy huh?  After drawing your circle, cut the circle out and then cut four lines per the diagram below.

After making your four cuts, fold along these imaginary lines:

It should now look like this:

Then on each end, bring up the side flaps and attach to the middle flap.  You can either have the flaps on the inside or the outside of the box.  I chose the outside because I think it gives it a little character.  Tack down with either two sided tape or with a glue gun.  I used tape.

Now you are ready to fill with whatever strikes your fancy!  I wanted flowers because it’s spring. Don’t you just love these colors?  The foil is so bright and vibrant and really stands out!

Heidi has lots of embellishments like this butterfly and the little “spectacular” banner.  They are pre-printed and pre-cut and are ready to be put through her machine to apply the foil.  You can’t get any easier than that.

So I brought this gold box to my friend at a luncheon today and the 10 other ladies went crazy!  They were full of questions on how I made this and one gal even took pictures because she is decorating for a wedding shower and thought this gold box would make a great centerpiece. With this Minc Foil Applicator, the possibilities are endless!

Hi again, it’s Lisa from Mabey She Made It back for another project today:  It’s all about this Clothespin  Canvas Art. We recently made a pretty awesome laundry closet in our house, and I LOVE the open counter space, the fresh white color, and the ample shelving. It’s been heavenly. It also has been screaming for a little something to liven up the middle section of the folding area. So when I was searching for laundry room decor ideas, I came across this Clothespin Canvas Art from Sweet Something Designs and had to pin it and try it.

I had an 8″ x 10″ canvas on hand and I recently picked up some fun clothespins from the dollar spot at Target, so I started playing.

Since I had a white wall and a white canvas, I needed to add some color or it would just disappear into the background. Here’s what I did:

1. Adhere a piece of tissue paper (mine was gold polka-dot) using Mod Podge. Make sure to smooth it out as you go and get the sides too. Then set the canvas aside to dry.
2. If your clothespins aren’t already painted and you want them colored, paint them up. Mine came painted (and glittered) so I didn’t have to do this step.
3. Adhere the clothespins to your canvas using hot glue in a pattern you like.

And in just a few minutes worth of work, you have something beautiful for your laundry room! I love how simple the design is and how quick it was to create.

It never fails.  Anytime we have someone staying with us, the poor things have to go out of their way and ask us, “What is the Wi-Fi,” password here?”

Not that I’m bothered by them asking at ALL, but I knew it was time to give ’em what they needed, and take out the trouble of them having to ask us.

So, when I saw an idea of how someone else displayed their Wi-Fi password, I knew it was something that I needed to do, like…PRONTO.  I originally found the idea on Pinterest, from Michelle, over at EleganceandEnchantment.  Lucky you, she even GIVES you the download  of her design, so you can edit your password in, and make it your own!

But, if you follow me over on Fantabulosity, you know I always seem to think I have to make “tweaks,” to something… so I did.  Although I love Michelle’s design, I wanted a little bit of a “nautical/modern,” theme to mine, to go with the rest of my guest room decor.

So where and how did I create mine?  I created it over on Canva.com.  Lucky lucky, they had super cute arrow images, that I was fond of, and just found a couple of fonts that I loved, and typed it all out.  It seriously only took me 5 minutes.  LOVE those types of DIY’s!

Other Wi-Fi password printables that I have seen, are usually framed in an 8×10.  For my guest room, I felt that size overpowered the room.  My guests aren’t there to just use the wi-fi, so I figured I’d let the other room decor stand out, rather than a big printable.    I chose to print it, and frame it in a 5×10.  I’m so glad that I did… it looks fabulous on my little night stand.

You can use wood glue as well to make the frame sturdier, but since this isn’t holding glass or anything I went for the quickest route. My automatic staple gun was too strong so I used my handheld one to staple the paper poster to the back

I’m really happy with how much it cheers up my gloomy hallway.

I have multiple requests from the hubby for other empty walls in the house. I guess I don’t have an excuse anymore…

I’m a “30-something” gal, mom of two boys, who may be slightly obsessed with DIY, throwing parties, organization, home decor, fashion, and spreading fabulous finds to anyone that will listen. I hang out over at my blog, Fantabulosity, where {you guessed it} I explore my creative outlet, admit my faults as a mom, and pass on any fantabulous “must-knows” that I come across.

I was flabbergasted when the gals from “Made from Pinterest” contacted me and asked if I would like to hop over here and share a little somethin’ with you all.  {I may have actually pinched myself, but don’t tell them I said that.}  I knew EXACTLY what I was going to share with you.

My “ahem” older sister moved away from our home in Missouri to the state of Alabama a few years ago.  Although she loves now being a “southerner”, her heart will always belong in Missouri.

So when I was browsing Pinterest for ideas of what to get/make her for her birthday, I knew immediately my search was over when I found {and pinned} the Simple State Art from In the Blue Room.  “I can do this,” I thought.  So I did!

With a few changes, I created the perfect gift for my sister and may even make one for the gallery wall in our home!

 You guys… this was sooo super easy.  {But don’t tell my sister that.}

How did I Make the DIY State Art?

Silhouette Machine Method: So I made my state art using my Silhouette Cameo machine.  However, I DO understand that not everyone has one of these .  {I had mine on my wish list for YEARS and my hubby finally got it for me for a birthday gift!  Ok… I bought it for myself for my birthday, but told him that it was from him.}

Anyhoo… I found an image of the state of Missouri {so you’ll find an image of whatever state you want to create with} and a “heart” image.  In the Silhouette design studio, I simply aligned the two images the way I wanted, adjusted the size for an 8×10 frame, and sent it to my silhouette machine.  I used a piece of glittery gold card stock and simply glued the cut-out shape of the state to a piece of white card stock and framed it!  Done!  Yes… that easy.

Print and Cut Method: Maybe with just a couple of more steps, but not a lot harder at all… this DIY project can be created in no time with scissors/cutting tool instead of a Silhouette machine.

Simply find an image of the state that you are wanting to use and print it.  You’ll want to adjust the size correctly for what you plan to frame it in.  So if it is going in an 8×10 frame, you may want the size to be a bit smaller than an 8×10 image. {This will all depend on which image software you are using.}

Print out the image of the state. Then simply cut the state out so you can use this as a “stencil.”

Grab the card stock of choice {I used gold glitter card stock} and you can either gently “tape” the stencil to the card stock and cut around the shape, or you can grab a pen/pencil and lightly trace the shape and then remove the stencil and cut the shape out of the card stock.

Ready to cut your heart?  Print a small heart, cut it out to use as a stencil, and place it on the state where need be.  You can either tape or trace it like you did above with the state.  Using an X-Acto knife, or any straight edge crafting tool that you may have… cut out the shape of the heart.

Glue the state to a piece of white card stock and frame in to whatever frame your little heart desires.

There it is!  Your DIY State Art, in NO time! 

My sister was thrilled to see what I made for her.  I think you’ll get the same reaction when you decide to create this too.

Hi!, it’s Lisa from Mabey She Made It here to show you how to make “The Places You’ve Lived Map Decor”! I love looking at and using maps and globes. They’re so fun and a great way to add color to your decor–especially if you love aqua as much as I do. I’ve also been eyeing those super cute home decor pieces where you cut out pieces of maps where you’ve lived like this one from Not on the High Street. You can buy one of hers, or you can make your own–with a little twist!

Ever since he graduated a few years ago, my husband’s job has taken us to different locations. And one of the things I’ve loved is getting to know each new place and love it as a home–even if it was only temporary. So this idea of remembering all the places you’ve lived resonates with me, especially since the list may continue to grow.

Map Decor Supplies

• Maps of where you’ve lived
• Computer and printer
• 1-3/4″ Circle paper punch
• Adhesive
• Frame

Instructions

Find where you’ve lived on each of your maps, and punch it out.

1. I wanted a title and the latitude and longitude of each of the places we’ve lived, so I looked them up, and created a quick layout in Adobe Illustrator. (If you want to use my .AI file you can come download here).
   
   
2. Print it out, and adhere your map circles over the template circles.
   
3. Frame it, and you’re done!

So simple, and yet meaningful. I love how this quick project lets me remember all the places we’ve been and that no matter where we go, I’ll be able to create home since I’m with my family.

I’ve seen plenty of marbled things on Pinterest but the one that really peaked my interest was this phone case by The Merry Thought. All it takes is a little bit of nail polish and warm water! I wanted something that was a little bit more subtle and eclectic looking so I grabbed these $1 tumblers from Target for DIY marbled tumblers!

Supplies:

• A medium bowl of warm water
• nail polish in your color of choice
• a dry towel

I used the warm water and dropped several dots of my nail polish in the water. Some spread very thin and you’ll be able to see that on some of the finish product and some you’ll be able to wipe away. Create your desired marbled effect and then you’ll want to do a dip and roll action with the cup making sure that none of the water or polish gets on the inside.

Set it aside and let it dry for about 5 minutes. You’ll still have some wet polish but the grosser stuff you’ll be able to wipe away. You’ll want to blot it rather than full on wipe it so that you don’t smear the larger spots. I did wash these in the dishwasher to see how they would hold up…not great. The glitter and the lighter polish all but washed away. The only parts that stuck were the darker blotches so if you’re wanting a really sturdy marble, go heavy. I do however love the look.

I don’t do it very often, but I really enjoy water coloring. I love the relaxation it gives me and the effects I can get with just color and water. So when I saw this Slow Down, Enjoy Life printable I was inspired. I loved the way the font paired with the flowers. And although it isn’t watercolored, it made me think about watercoloring.

So I pulled up Illustrator and chose a fun quote and left LOTS of white space around it. Then I pulled up a photo of shamrocks, and started sketching a few around my quote.

When I was satisfied with my sketch, I pulled out the ink, water, and brushes and started painting. After drying I added in some quick little details with a marker, and it was done!

I love that it was pretty quick, but I still was able to come up with something I love for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day season.

It was so much fun, that I thought I’d like to share it with you. So I turned it into a free 8×10 printable you can share or keep for yourself.
